What really is website search engine optimization? Wikipedia defines website search engine optimization as the process of improving the volume and quality of traffic to a web site from search engines via “natural” (”organic” or “algorithmic”) search results. In order to achieve high rankings in the search engines, both on-page and off-page factors must be optimized. Before examining some of these factors, a couple of general points require examination.
When you do a Google query using the phrase “search engine optimization”, guess what website comes up currently on the top of the first page. You guessed it, Wikipedia’s definition and discussion on website search engine optimization, not a search engine optimization company. Wikipedia has held this position for a very long time. Why is this so, and why does Wikipedia come up on the first page when querying general information about many things using Google. Wikipedia is a site that continually expands due to almost daily submissions of articles, it is a dynamic website, and most importantly, it is extremely useful to people who are seeking information on a variety of topics. This high degree of usefullness results in many relevant inbound links. Bottom line, Wikipedia is designed to be useful to the visitor. Exactly what the search engines like.
Certain outcome determinants such as keyword phrase location, density of keyword phrase, number and quality of relevant inbound links, are key components of optimization and will always be scrutinized by search engines, therefore it is imperative that these factors be done properly for high rankings. On-page spamming will always be disliked by search engines. The point is the basics of SEO will not likely change much.
Those that have a calm, cool, and collect personality will likely do well in search engine optimization. As a matter of fact, the same laid back personality that NASA looks for in it’s astronauts is the type of personality that is suited for website search engine optimization. Maintaining a cool head and not getting to flustered is important when you see a drop in ranking for a website. The search engine optimizer simply should not worry about every tweak and fluctuation the search engines decide to incorporate into their ranking algo. Concerned yes, but worried, no.
If you create a website or blog that is designed to be of some benefit to the user, and you put your readers first, the search engines will like your site. Remember the holy grail for the search engines is relevancy and quality. This is exactly what the visitor wants.
|
It is well known within website search engine optimization that copy quality is a highly subjective term, but it usually means that the website or blog contains useful well written information, and the site is not a rehash of material which is ubiquitous on the Internet. This type of copy attracts inbound links from high quality sites, and the search engines know this and they have incorporated this into their ranking algo.
A key component of website search engine optimization deals with the quality and number of inbound links, with quality of those inbound links being one of the most important factors. The greater the number of high quality relevant inbound links, the better your ranking.
The number of relevant and high quality inbound links is simply a measure of how good your site is. Search engines want to provide high quality and relevant sites to their visitors so visitors will keep using their search engine. This understanding is the foundation for any website search engine optimization campaign.
As Web 2.0 becomes more prevalent, search engines may incorporate into their ranking algo results from social bookmarking sites. Social bookmarking sites allow visitors to vote in terms of which sites are perceived to be more useful and therefore higher quality to the visitor. So in the future, it may not only be the number of high quality relevant inbound links, but other indicators of quality content. How they would tie in social bookmarking sites to their ranking algo I do not know, but what I do know is that they are always looking for a crucible of quality indication. Google engineers are always trying to find reliable indicators of quality content. High quality content coupled with a high degree of relevancy is what search engines will always pursue.
In terms of on-page website search engine optimization, it is important to remember that if a page is optimized, and not overly optimized, not only will the spider understand the take home for that page, but also the visitor should have the same assimilation and therefore the page has been useful. Make your site the best it can be and refresh the content regularly, and eventually the search engines will rank you well.
If you have done nothing to your site and your rankings are fluctuating, i.e. one day number two ranking, and the next day you drop into oblivion, then the search engine is most likely tweaking it’s ranking algo. After the dust settles, your ranking should return. Just make sure that your outbound links are not to bad neighborhoods or to sites that have decided to do something stupid such as using black hat techniques.
Most professionals within website search engine optimization know that black hat techniques are for short term gains only. If you are in this business for the long haul, it is highly advisable to incorporate white hat techniques into your basic modality of search engine optimization. There really are no short cuts in search engine optimization. But isn’t that true of most worthwhile endeavors.
The botttom line is this. Quality content, meaning useful content, will win in the end. If you need to buy links, which is really the same as buying a good opinion about your site, Google will know this and you will be penalized, your ranking will drop, or eventually Google will throw you away. From Googles perspective, this makes sense. Black Hat SEO is really a waste of time if you are thinking about a long term high ranking. Your energy is better spent creating quality content.
Website Search Engine Optimization - Videos
In website search engine optimization, the optimizer must keep up with what is going on in the search engine optimization industry. Probably more so in this profession compared to other professions. Although I have tried to provide some useful information to the fledgling website search engine optimizer, the most important component of this site is the search engine optimization news. Search engines tweak their algorithms from time to time and therefore it is essential for the search engine optimization professional to tweak his or her knowledge over time as needed. Hence the need for this news journal.
The following is today’s website search engine optimization news. The news provided here will be updated daily. Place the XML URL into your aggregator reader to read daily updates. When writing copy, concentrate on what is beneficial to your readers, and not the search engines, and you will eventually rank well. If you put your readers first, the search engines will like you.
